May 29 – 31, 2008, Comedysportz Improv Theatre will host the first RIF, Richmond Improv Festival. The RIF will feature all of Richmonds most prominent improv troupes coming together to perform under one roof. Never before has this happened in Richmond with so many different improv troupes coming together. The troupes scheduled to participate are Comedysportz, Random Acts, Cousin Sheckie, Full Contact Improv, iProv, and Jester’s Ink.

There are over 50 of Richmonds finest and funniest improvisers that will be performing over the course of three nights.  Comedysportz will anchor the 7:30 shows, the 10:00 pm After Hours shows will feature the other 5 troupes. The After Hours shows that perform at the Comedysportz Improv Theatre are shows more appropriate for an adult crowd.  If you want to bring the entire family, come out to the 7:30 show, and if it’s date night than make plans to come out to the RIF and laugh at the improv scene of Richmond VA.

Each improv troupe has a different focus and style of performing that makes their show unique. Random Acts features Scott Foard, Pat Raines, Jeff Clevenger, George Herring, JR Foster, and Mike Dunn provides a short form style show that is punch line driven. Full Contact Improv combines a mix of short form improv games and Chicago style long form, their members are Jenni Goldsby, Ronnie Lamb, Andy Burns, Katie Holcomb, David Pijor, and Thomas George. Cousin Sheckie, Richmond all long form all the time improv troupe, performs Chicago style long form, performed by Stephen Ryan, Amy Berlin, Abby Hess, Jonathan Hardin, Justin Deming, Jason Sawyer, and Peter Schmidt .iProv, Richmond’s only all musical improv troupe sings songs on the spot with the accompaniment of Shann Palmer on Keyboard, and Daryl Scruggs on drums. The iProv performers are Dave Gau, Kim Thurston, Jenny Walters, Brandon Hagstrom, Brian Dunn, Katie Holcomb, David Pijor and Thomas George.
