Richmond Sports Backers The Sports Backers is a nonprofit organization dedicated to building a more vibrant community through sports. The Sports Backers organize large scale community participation events like the Ukrop’s Monument Avenue 10k, the James River Adventure Games, the McDonald’s X-country Festival at Maymont and the SunTrust Richmond Marathon. In addition, Sports Backers supports a myriad of locally managed events.
Richmond Renegades The Richmond Renegades are a SPHL ice hockey team. The team, owned by Allan B. Harvie Jr., the founder of the former ECHL Renegades franchise, began play in October 2006 at the Richmond Coliseum. The new Renegades replaced the United Hockey League Richmond RiverDogs, who relocated to suburban Chicago for the 2006-07 season.

Richmond Kickers USL Second Division Pro Soccer The 2008 season marks the 15th anniversary for the Richmond Kickers who have been a member of the United Soccer Leagues family since 1993. Over the past 15 seasons, Richmond has qualified for post-season play 12 times, including six Championship appearances. The Richmond Kickers pro soccer season runs April through August.
